Filling Out an APO Address Correctly For Shipping

This applies to parcel mailing labels as well as online checkout forms. Note that not all online vendors are setup to ship to an APO address. It is recommended you purchase from vendors that actually have AA, AE and AP listed in their State drop-down box.

All packages sent to a soldier in Iraq use the United States Postal Service (USPS) to get to the APO location in the U.S. where packages are first scanned before being transferred to the Army Post Office (APO) system. You cannot use UPS (United Parcel Service) to send a package.

Note: FedEx International may be used to ship a package to the Baghdad International Airport (BIAH) in some situations but you must make note on the FedEx form and there must be special arrangements made at the Baghdad Airport FedEx center for pickup by the soldier. FedEx packages will arrive in Baghdad in about 5 days this way.
